Margarette Mattos -
a brilliant visual artist, creative master, and Lucas’ mom.
Margarette Mattos is a Brazilian abstract painter who currently resides in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her contemporary pieces reflect her innovative technique of mixing iron ore fines with acrylic paint. Her paintings are characterized by bold colors and texture contrasts incorporated into geometric and abstract shapes.
Mattos is from Vitória, a city in southeast Brazil. Her career started in the early 1990’s when she was invited to participate in an art project sponsored by the Federal University of Espírito Santo. The purpose of the exhibit, entitled Visões de Vitória, was to highlight the city’s architecture. While doing research in conjunction with this show, Mattos had her first exposure to the possibility of using iron ore to express herself as an artist. She spent many years experimenting before she found the proper way to effectively incorporate iron ore into her work without losing its luster, texture and distinctive color.
“Art is something that makes you breathe with a different kind of happiness.”
